A Message From the NABJ USC President

Happy New Year, NABJ USC community!

With the start of spring semester at the University of Southern California we are excited to announce our latest updates from our burgeoning chapter here on campus.

NABJ-NAHJ JOINT CONVENTION

The National Association of Black Journalists and National Association of Hispanic Journalists will be holding a joint national convention on August 3-7, 2016 in Washington, D.C.

Each year, NABJ holds Student Multimedia Projects, an all expense-paid fellowship for outstanding journalism students to cover the Annual Convention and Career Fair as well as local stories in the convention host city. They have daily newscasts and print newspaper as well as sections geared toward photography and online.

We encourage all of our members to apply for this opportunity to gain more reporting experience and network with top reporters and editors in the business. Apply by Jan. 31, 2016. Application can be found here.

NABJ LA MEETINGS

The National Association of Black Journalists Los Angeles holds its meetings on the third Saturday of the month. Members carpool to the meetings that are held at the SAG/AFTRA Headquarters (5757 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036).

If youโ€™d like to join us, let us know on our social media pages and we can arrange a ride for you!

HIGHLIGHTS FOR UPCOMING SEMESTER

  • We will be hosting a Black History Month event as part of the Black Student Assembly at USC. Mark your calendar for Monday, February 8 from 7-10 p.m.

More details about our speaker and event will be coming shortly.

  • We will be hosting a conference for West Coast student chapters in April. It will be an opportunity for student journalists to better acquaint themselves with one another, network and socialize.
  • We continually update our social media pages with posts of internship and volunteerism activities. Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook and Instagram so you donโ€™t miss out on opportunities.

I look forward to working with you to build up our NABJ USC chapter.

Best,

Jordyn Holman
